My reaction to the nonsense in Iraq - in historical perspective |
The Imposition of Hubris Let the pompous rage, As furiously as need be. Let the war proceed, If only for enjoyment. The cave men, The tribes of Israel, The Romans transalpine, The crusaders. Homo erectus, Ehud and Shamgar, Julius Caesar, George the hawk. Miles gloriosus, Humorless blowhard, Strut your stuff, Caress your ego. And all for peace, Pacis imponere, My way, not yours, And say thank you! Rob the poor, Divide the spoils, Deprive your scions, Prostitute the world. Imposition worked not then, Nor will it ever. All vanity perishes. History sees to that. The past could teach, If fools would listen. But the closed minded Have discarded their ears. Let the pompous rage, Let them revel in pride. But let them beware A dreadful disgrace. |
