A WINNING SMILE

A winning smile from ear to ear,
So proud he lost another tooth;
"It's part of growing up" I thought
as I looked down at my youth.

He handed me that priceless bit
of ivory and then he said -
"Put it under my pillow, Mom -
I'll get a dollar instead!"

He's a bit old to still believe
In tooth fairies, I would think;
But a dollar is quite a trade
when a tear is on the brink!

In years to come I will recall
and think on it awhile -
The time he lost another tooth
and gave me this winning smile!
