Is the quest worth it?

The Quest

Fighting the cold, howling gale,
he makes his way to yon castle.

Regardless of the chill,
he is sweat-soaked,
immersed in thought,
fear swallowing his soul.

He makes his way to the bowels
of the unforgiving stone walls.
Hoards of bats attempt to
impede his progress.
He swats them away.

Finding what he seeks,
he tries to wipe countless years
of dust from
an ancient glass case.

He reads the cryptic message
carved in ebon stone.
Realization freezes his heart.

The curse removes his senses.
His quest has left him mad.
