![]() Gandalf’s Farewell My rolling days are done at last. No longer shall I roam; Pilgrim feet that wandered far At last will wander home. I’ll sing my last goodbye to thee, O children of my heart. Long love and labor bind us still Though now I must depart. I sing farewell to Middle-earth, Green meadows under sun. I leave you safe, my task complete, For now my work is done. Of singing maids and laughing youth And simple lives the theme, Of tree and leaf and flower fair Forever I shall dream. White ship waits now to wing away; Aman, it beckons me. The world will sink beneath the Road, Straight Path of memory. I go to bow before the throne Upon Taniquetil’s crest; And walk once more in Lórien, To dream ‘midst Estë’s rest. My rolling days are done at last. No longer shall I roam; Pilgrim feet that wandered far At last will wander home. |
