My Side of Me

Actions extend from the heart; they are not separate entities.

MY SIDE OF ME

The real me resides within,
I live inside my heart.
There would be no outside of me
without this inward start.

The actions that you see me do,
the deeds my hands perform
were all first manufactured
in my heart where they were born.

All I say and think and do
must come about that way.
My feelings, too, result from this
mute, innermost display.

My heart, itself, can't move about
nor does it have a voice.
It cannot tell a viewer
when it wants to scream "Rejoice!"

Nor can it show frustration
nor anger to a crowd.
It relies upon behavior
which extends beyond its shroud.

To change the me I am to you
must start within my core;
my heart, my head, my personhood;
these truly keep the score.

So if you find you are not happy
with the doing part of me,
then you won't like my heart;
the very me you cannot see.
