Enough! The mist peers through broken crystalware, The mute moon-light bathes her room, Hurt, abused and sobbing, She remains, Sleeping in; Nine years old is she, And she has welts and bruises up her legs, No redemption from her father, She remains, Sleeping in; Her mother's gone for ever, While she grows older daily, Days speed by, nights creep on her, She remains, Sleeping in; He invades her every night, She screams for mercy, howls and pleads, No witnesses, no clemency, She remains, Sleeping in; Rape, incest, what does she care? Humanity means nought for her, The devil rules her home, She remains, Sleeping in; Her soul, tormented, cries out: Enough! She cuts her wrists and bleeds - The world around her awakens, She remains, Sleeping in. © Dr. Taher Kagalwala, 2004 |
