A poem written for friends who had their first child. |
| Nuzzling my breast, your large eyes staring at me Through a haze of unknowing, so full of trust. You accept the barrage of sensations And respond with meaningful silence. I try to translate into words What is being written in your heartbeats. Those luminous songs. I wonder what they are saying. We have lived before this day in two separate bodies, As other moments of ourselves dreaming about now. I archive memories of you. Your first breaths, Your first sighs, The first time I saw myself in your smile. |
