Beginning

“Don’t be silly.”

“I’m not being silly…”

“You mean you really want me to give you two years-worth of allowance?”

“Yes, but then you won’t have to give me any allowance for two years. Well, actually one year and five months… I think…”

“And may I ask why?”

“I want to buy a guitar.”

“A guitar? I don’t remember you ever talking about learning to play a guitar before…”

“I’ve always liked guitar music, and this morning on Toonie Tunes they were talking to a guy who sings and plays a guitar. He said he started learning to play the guitar when he was nine. Well, I’m nine!”

“But I don’t remember you ever talking about music before.”

“I didn’t think about how music got started. I think I thought some people were born knowing how to music, and I just wasn’t one of them. But this guy on Toonie Tunes said he learned to play music, when he was nine, on a guitar that his uncle gave him! And that when he started, he didn’t know anything yet. I’m nine and I don’t know anything! I just don’t have a uncle who has a guitar to give me. But Traydales sells guitars. I look at them all the time when we go there. That’s how I know how much they cost.

“You remembered how much guitars cost from seeing them at the store?”

“Yes… I just didn’t know you could learn to play them…”

“Got it… How about we buy you a guitar for your birthday, and you can take guitar lessons…?

“But my birthday isn’t till September…”

“We can give it to you early, if you’re really serious…”

“Yes!!”

His first album came out when he had just turned twenty-three. His first of many… And so goes life.
