It is so easy to get use to modern comforts that we begin to depend on them. |
Signal Lost We had a major crisis the other day. Disaster struck! We almost cried. The power blinked, our internet died. Signal lost. Blue-tooth wouldn’t play. No bars, no buzz, no screens aglow. The web was silent—quite as snow. No Wi-Fi waves, no cell signal to see, No streaming, texts, or E-mail for me. Internet down! What’s a soul to do? “Hey Google, where are you?” No computer voice would answer back. No search results, no trends to track. Service down. Restoration time not known. We paced the floor, even packed a bag. In quiet isolation, we felt so alone. Depressed, our impatience began to nag. What did we do in times of yore? When the cyber verse had no form. The simple world just years before. Social gatherings were the norm. We would read a paper or a book. Maybe go fishing at the brook. Look through the daily mail. Visit with friends to share a tale. Two days later, lights did gleam. Like it all had been a dream. The phones lit up, the bars returned. Signal back. We soon learned. No texts, no calls, no urgent miss. Its like the world didn't know we exist. Though no one noticed we were gone, We're back online—and life goes on. |
