| A Man Called Ove was a bestselling novel written by Swedish author, Fredrik Backman. The protagonist, Ove, is a 59-year-old widower who’s stuck in his ways until unforeseen events turn his world upside down. It is the only book I can ever remember reading which made me both laugh out loud and yet cry unashamedly. It messed with my emotions. The novel was adapted into a successful movie, starring Tom Hanks. It explores grief, love and finding a purpose later in life. Although it deals with dark topics like death and depression it leaves the reader feeling moved and hopeful. |
