A baby keeps a mother and father awake

“Holy moldin’ Moses, Mary!”

“There is no need to blaspheme, Joseph.”

“Well, can’t you get the kid to quit cryin’? I’ve got to get up early tomorrow. I told Sewas I’d help him dig a well.”

“I’m sorry, Joseph. I don’t know what’s wrong with him.”

“Give him some more water to drink. He seems to sleep after he drinks water.”

“You’re right, Joseph. He does sleep more soundly after he drinks water. But after he drinks himself to sleep, have you noticed how bloodshot his little eyes are upon his awakening? They look much as yours do after you drink too much wine.”

“Well, maybe our ‘miracle baby’ has a little distillery in his tummy.”

“Are you suggesting that our son turns the water he drinks into wine?”

“Why not? There’s no reason for him to settle for water when God has given him the power to turn water into wine.”

“There you go again, questioning God’s work.”

“Well, now that you mention it, Mary, the more I think over your story about how you got knocked-up, the more I question how it was God chose you.”

“I told you how it was that an angel came to me in my sleep.”

“Yeah, Mary, you told me a thousand times about how an angel came. Just maybe, there was someone besides an angel doin’ some comin’ while you slept; I know for sure, it wasn’t me.”

“You don’t… believe me… but it’s true.”

“Hey, I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to make you cry. Don’t get me wrong, Mary, it’s a great story, it’s just… I mean, why you?”

“I’ll tell you after I give the kid some water; his cryin’ is getting on my nerves, too.”
