The Goddess of the Moon, the Hunt, Chastity, etc has a daughter. It's complicated.

The forest was darker than most nights before. At least, according to Artemis' memory. She often remembered the moonlight giving almost complete visibility to her, allowing her famed and favorite nighttime hunting sessions to happen. However, as the new moon was over the sky, almost non-existent, Artemis found herself having trouble finding and catching her prey.

For years, Artemis was the huntress, of the Olympian regime she was born. In contrast to her brother Apollo, who was more in touch with civilization, Artemis preferred the tranquility and liberation of wild nature. She was the top, the absolute, in terms of hunting ability. Not even her most loyal and devoted Huntresses could match her ability. In a sense, Artemis enjoyed the challenge of near-blindedness, as it gave a chance to prove herself as the greatest huntress to herself and her followers. But then again, maybe it's better to know what she's actually looking at, lest she accidentally kill someone she knew and loved.

Eventually, she found something worth hunting. She saw the rear end of a deer, defecating behind a tree.

"Finally," she whispered... to herself. Artemis took aim, held steady, and... missed. And worse, the deer noticed, and sped off. Artemis is not going to let that happen.

Of course, the deer could not be caught. No matter how fast she ran, the deer ran faster. Now matter how much she aimed and fired while running, a skill she was working on at the time, the deer kept dodging the arrows. No matter how much she tried using the environment to her advantage, that damn deer seemed to know it better than Artemis ever did.

"Ηλίθιε! Look at me! Artemis! Goddess of the Wild! Being bested by some stupid beast-"

Almost immediately after she said those words, the being stopped. Artemis stopped likewise. The deer turned around, revealing a silhouette of a human upper half.

"... beast?" it said.

Artemis looked it up and down, using what little light there was to see what she had been chasing. Brass hooves. Deer bottom, hermaphroditic. Human top, female. A quiver of arrows on its back and a bow in its hand. Golden... antlers.

The moment Artemis focused on the antlers, she finally put her bow down. She knew there was only one person who... looked like this. The Stag-Maiden. A child of the Golden Hind, impregnated by the doe's mistress... Artemis herself. A cervitaur* whose archery and hunting skills are close to that of her mother's.

"Diana."

"Mother."

"It's been years. I see you've been doing... how are you doing?" Artemis asked.

".. fine. Until you almost shot me," Diana retorted.

"Look, I didn't know what you were, I thought you were a simple deer."

"I know that it's darker than Asphodel, but you almost killed me."

"And I'm sorry about that."

The two stood there, unsure on how to continue. It was pretty awkward. Eventually, Artemis spoke up.

"Look. I'm really, really sorry."

Artemis could barely get through the sentence before putting her hands on her knees, weak and exhausted. She was sweating, panting, and steaming up in the cold, moonless night.

Diana picked up her mother, and carried her to a nearby river. There, Artemis undressed and began to bathe. Diana offered to keep watch, but Artemis told her to come in with her.
