It Didn't Snow

It was cold as it's ever been
For three years running
Squirrels secreted their nuts
Opossums jumped into trees
It didn't snow

Pandemics came and went
Life goes on and then not so much
You were imprisoned by illness
I was confined by anxiety
Still, it didn't snow

You are gone to a better place
Planting lenten roses to surprise us in March
Your spirit set free
I am enclosed in my fears
It never snowed three years on

There is a new pup barking at January next door
The old pup makes adjustments
You are almost two years gone.
Snow fell and now the sun shines
How can anything balance, without you?
