A short poem about a man who falls in love with a mermaid. |
| Gentle lapping of water against Earth’s child, Threatening to return what lies atop back into the wild. A maiden, one unseen by the eyes of man, Graces me with her beauty! What makes me better than Those who have chased Her before; those unveiling? Ah, it is my heart She chases! It is mine that is prevailing! And here I offer, carrying my fruitful heart in hand, While She rests with her alluring tail in the sand. And yet here I will remain, Her gaze falls above me. “What must I do to make you notice, to have you see?” And then She is gone! Away She stirs, away with my heart. But I will not see Her go, Her and I must never part! So here my heavy feet remain, longing for Her grace, Wishing for Her, a feeling that I will forever chase. |
