HER OLD SOUL is Book 2 in the new DETECTIVE MARIA MILLER Series by Helen Pfifer. Detective Miller and her partner Frankie are a sort of NYPD Mulder-and-Scully, the only two detectives in the "strange crimes unit." Their first encounter involved an attic-trapped demons and opened their minds to existences beyond mundane reality.
Now they confront the consequences of torture, abuse, sadism, and murder in a long-abandoned insane asylum, constructed on once-Native territory, slated for razing prior to the construction of luxury villas.

Maria and Frankie, and Maria's elderly psychic Sapphic neighbors, must face certain demise if they cannot rescue a lost adolescent, trapped in the Asylum's turmoil.

Much of the story focuses on the treatment of the residents, both the shunted-aside wealthy women, and the demonstrably insane, including the criminally insane.
