Forgiveness Is Not Just a Word

Regrets haunt us unless we can accept that without them, we wouldn't be who we are today.

If only I could change the past,
And take away all the mistakes I've made.
Leaving behind the good,
All the fun and joy we had.

But, to change one single decision,
As much as that appeals.
The things I've come to regret,
Could be so much worse I fear.

So, I live along with these outcomes,
Mistakes that have taught me well.
No changing what's already happened,
Your pain I cannot quell.

Because if I could go back,
And change what I did...I would.
Then we might still be together,
Instead of the loneliness I feel.

Forgiveness is not just a word,
It's a gift for us both, can't you see?
But, if you can't forgive my trespass,
Then together we will never be.
