Days of flight connected
To transient peril;
Nightly turnabouts entertain
The most grueling entries;
A storied hardship engaging
The neutral paths
Of the southern region…

Traffickers and drug cartels
Lead these courageous
And desperate souls
Across the Rio Grande,
A frosty exchange
Evincing a strange uncertainty…
The senseless encounters
Forsake the tragedy and ruin
Of an unbearable conquest -
A stringent plan of remorseless vitriol
For this standard paradise
Of opportunity’s virtues
And values…

The saintly coincidence
Bears a shocking contempt
For American resolve;
These gory straits stand
In healthy opposition to the skittish
And now untenable promise
Of America’s evolving strata…
