Cut Grass

the familiar scent of a freshly mowed lawn

The fragrance calmed me.
         Refreshing
                   Green
                             Earthy
The heady scent of a lawn freshly cut.

And in my head, I heard
         the humming
                   purring
                             whirring
of the mower as it
levelled the overgrown sod.

It soothed my frayed nerves
         calming
                   relaxing
                             lulling
quieting my busy mind

and pulling me back
into the arms of Nature.
