After the sun we welcome Autumn |
| 25 lines At last! Summer be gone. Pleased am I to bid you farewell. A summer hotter than in any other eon. Of days sweltering under scorching sun. My garden. Brown, crisp, dry and parched, Awaits and welcomes Autumn rains. Thirsts be slaked as empty dams refilled Livestock gather at water’s rim. Farmer’s dreams fulfilled And frogs and fish begin to swim Days when heat is endless Sap energy and will Leaves us all defenceless And pray for time until, Days when Gum trees sigh. Australian creatures seeking rain, Look to the sky, To slake their thirst and pain. Sleep comes easy on nights so cool Awake refreshed and welcome the day No need to follow summer’s rules Of seeking shade from scorching rays. |
