Without You: A Love Poem

for the love of my life

There is no life without you
you are my closest friend.
When your life has run its course
then mine too will end.

I won't survive without you.
Your love, it lights my heart.
There is no life without you
when time comes for us to part.

What life is there without you?
What reason to go on?
How could I live without you?
I'm already too far gone.

Without you, I am nothing,
full of anger and despair.
A darkened soul without its light
in the absence of your care.

I cannot go on without you,
you are my anchor and my strength.
For you my dear beloved
I'd go to any lengths.

My mind will break without you
my heart and soul as well.
For without you, my darling love
I'll be in the bowels of Hell.

I wrote this poem using phrases my husband has said to me over the last few years of my infirmity.
This is my poem to him as surely as they are his words to me. I will forever prefer the "us" over "me".
