Children's book about safety

As a parent of adult offspring, grandparent, and step-greatgrand, I fully understand the essential importance of teaching children safety. In their innocence, children don't know how to stay safe or why running off could be dangerous. I wish no child would ever have to learn.
I appreciate the author's intent to illuminate for children the importance of remaining close to home and family. However I found this book too edgy and am concerned that instead it would scare young children. I found it unsettling myself.
