Tranquility

Written after 911 which changed my life's trajectory

Who is your foundation
when earth gives way beneath you?
What is your one truth
that you find left to cling to?

Twin towers will fall and
humanity will crumble
yet with each passing sunrise
through this world we must stumble.

I’ve screamed into the canyon
await the echo of my anthem
a rhythm to dance to
a melody for this mayhem.

But alone when I ponder
all of life’s possibility
it’s in your eyes’ reflection
where I find my tranquility.
