Heart Over Matter

The heart is so powerful and many times we make decisions out of love

Within my heart is a purpose

I can’t begin to understand

It’s bigger than me

And sometimes it even goes against my minds wishes

I try to tame it down and be more logical

But this feeling is beyond rational thought at times

Although both amazing and dangerous

To have ones walls down is a risk

Some would say the rare gift of love is worth the possibility

Of feelings not appreciated or worse not returned

There are those that will take advantage

Asking for more at every turn

Until you’re spread so thin

And one day nothing but an empty shell remains

And once that fragile shell breaks

Your left picking up the pieces

Unsure of if and when you’ll be whole again

Make no mistake though

If somehow you’re lucky and find true love with feelings returned

You won’t look back

Or feel sorry for those hard times

In fact you will feel like you wouldn’t want to change a thing

A single thing that got you to where you are now
