I don't need anyone's approval but mine
I have already proved how brightly I can shine
The thing is, I don't quite believe in me
I've been trained to think I'm useless as can be.

So I want everyone to like me
I want them to think I'm right
If someone disapproves,
I spend a sleepless night.

I've done stuff I've never dreamed of
I've overcome so many hurdles
And yet, each time I get a frown
My toes curl and my blood curdles

He has hurt me once, twice
and this has done me harm
But I won't let it happen again
