It didn’t work out

UNAVAILABLE LOVE

Once upon a time
I was loved by a man
who didn’t love himself.

He tried, he really did,
to show me love, but
he didn’t love himself.

His demons stood
strong against him ever
learning to love himself.

He couldn’t shed his anger,
he couldn’t give to me, when
he couldn’t love himself.

I thought my love for him
would someday teach him
how to love himself.

But in the end, I had
to walk away, because
he didn’t love himself.
