for poetry contest using the prompt words, 'Red Bird in the Snow" |
| "Red Bird in Snow" While walking down a winter’s path In the snowy woods near his house An elderly man encounters a red bird Stuck in the snowdrift The old man reaches out And free the red bird The bird turns to is the man And says He is a magic bird And can grant him One wish To thank him for saving his life But be careful For what you wish for The man smiles Says all he wants Is to be with his wife Forever The bird smiled Said your wish Is my command Go home now And you will your wish Will come true Tonight, at midnight The man goes home Tells his wife The story They smile At midnight There is a knock at the door The man opens the door Surprise It is the grim reaper With the red bird On his shoulder He says he is there For both of them Their appointment With death awaits |
