Honoring Our Veterans Contest written for my Father /RIP |
Sergeant Soldier By Lisa Noe When I see poppies I think of you, For all the things you did for your troops. You were a mentor, like a father with pride, All your men stood by your side. A sergeant who led troops through the vines. Never leaving, not even, one behind. They heard your voice when shells were overhead. These men knew they were led. They felt fear and recalled your voice, Never knowing if they had a choice. Looking at the enemy in the eye, Knowing full well one would die. Now I cry when I think of you. My father, you were American true. You led those men and many you saved, Because like a soldier you behaved. 115 words 16 lines |
