Podcast The source material and inspiration for my book this year (as well as for my book last year) is a tabletop gaming podcast hosted by my friends over at the aforementioned ![]() ![]() ![]() Playlist ![]() The Adventures rule set was devised by the channel, and the podcast covers one of the earliest games testing those rules. I am a part of the later cast (coming in at Episode 7) playing the sawov, Radley, which is how I was initially involved in the project before starting work on the adaptation. The episodes are still being uploaded to the channel, although as of right now they have all been recorded, as well as a second arc, and two separate stories; Adventures: Soulbound and Adventures: Ragnarok. If you're interested in the podcast, check it out, subscribe to the channel for updates, and don't forget to like/comment. Adventures! Adaptations After recording arc one I was approached by one of the other players (and my frequent collaborative partner) Alan Johnson about doing a novelization. Those of you who were with me last year know that this is not my first crack at it. For the 2017 NaNoWriMo Write-A-Thon I did my first novelization, which took all the material from the podcast and put it into book form. It totaled around 135,000 words which was a little bit ridiculous and pretty much halted progress on moving that draft forward (because no one, myself included, wanted to keep working with something that unmanageable.) After a lot of discussions with the other players over the year, we decided that it really should be a series of six books, five covering the five concepts of arc one and one covering the entirety of arc two. In that decision we also discussed expanding on the lore, the universe, and creating character interaction scenes that didn't happen over the course of the podcast. I've been given more information and more creative freedom, and I'm very excited to take the series in a very different, bizarre direction. Welcome Home Welcome Home is the working title of the first book, and you can pretty much count on it being changed. While I was outlining the new series I took all of the working titles from songs that are on my work playlist for this particular project. While I encourage any of my beta readers with the access code to read, I feel like it's my obligation to warn you that my goal with this is not to write a polished novel, but to faithfully adapt a singular experience. Because that is what Adventures! should always remain; an experience. |
