Only One Aretha, One Elvis |
| This poem is entered in "Shadows and Light Poetry Contest" Radio and Vinyl "Respect" plays in the distance, breezing toward autumn break out the candles pumpkin and cinnamon scented anniversary of Elvis dying Drifting toward carved jack-o-lanterns lighting the nights of shortened days as in 1977 Paint on my car good and spotted now Time takes a certain toll Still prefer radio over television, Vinyl is much easier to remember The needle stuck in the past, turning imagination in place Play us a record The Beatles are pretty fine There was only one Aretha Spinning on that turntable holding that memory close as summer fades to fall 17 Lines Aretha Franklin died August 16, 2018. Elvis Presley died August 16, 1977. |
