Darkness increases,
with each light that goes out,
with each soul that passes
into the silence
of the grave.

Intone prayers for the departed,
to assist the severed soul
in its movement
through the passage
that lies between
the material and spiritual worlds.

Let your supplications be lights
that decrease the darkness,
illuminate the soul
that has passed,
and shatters the silence
left
by the light
that has gone out.
