The Only Way Out

Musical Drabble (100-word short story) entry based on Pink Floyd's "Money."

“You sure about this?”

“Yeah.”

“Once you hand me the money, there’s no going back. I will fulfill the contract.”

“I expect nothing less,” John replied, handing him a bulging envelope.

Commissioning a hitman turned out to be a lot easier than John had thought. The harder part will be living with the knowledge that he was responsible for ending a human life.

“I’ll give you a five minute head start,” the hitman said, pocketing the envelope.

At least I won’t have to live with it much longer, John thought. And my family will be okay.

He started to run.
