Run! Get as far away as possible. He left Phoenix to be somewhere safe.

Newspapers cover the seat of the rusted-out Chevy Pickup: Help wanted ads with vicious inked circles, then tossed aside to stare out the window onto a stretch of highway where he was the only occupant.

Maybe if he went to the police and explained what happened. Or maybe he could stop and breathe if he reached Albuquerque or Tulsa or….
