Agony

a poem written for a daily writing challenge.

agony like a ravenous beast
rampaging through my chest
my heart sundered
crimson pools littering this battlefield

solitude my reward
damp eyes witness her passage
chestnut hair floating in the breeze
blood crusting her fingers

my world departs
my heart cleaved in two
this invisible scar the shape of a hand
this empty space in my chest
all that remains of her
as agony resonates within my soul
