You know that song lyric by the Thompson Twins—Lies, lies, lies yeah. Those lyrics ran through my brain on a loop as he stood staring at me, avoiding eye contact. If he thought the silence was helping his cause, he was mistaken.

“She just fell, and inadvertently got her red lipstick on your collar?” I asked, knowing that wasn’t how it went down.

“Exactly. Thanks for being so understanding.”

Understanding? Was he insane?
