Lying quietly in my blanket of darkness
during that unforgiving time between
bedtime and sleep.

My mind a wasteland of thoughts
and ideas, none fruitful except to keep
the sandman away.

This treachery and deceit
is where I turn whenever
I seek the shelter of sleep.
