join me on a dream trip.... written for the writers cramp

I awoke in a place I didn’t recognize. The light was quite bright, but the surrounding area was not. I stood and looked around at this alien environment I found myself in. The colors of this environment were brighter and very different than anything I ever could have possibly imagined.

“The air is pretty,” I thought as I took a deep sniff of the atmosphere.

It had a very sweet smell to it, almost sickeningly sweet, somewhat like a hard candy factory would smell. I bent down and followed the scent to a row of button like flowers arranged in a row, much like the row on a sweater.

“These buttons are neat,” I thought as I realized how soft and delicate they were by touching them with my finger which caused the particular flower to disintegrate before my eyes. Making sure it wasn’t just that flower, I touched another, and then another, and still another. Each one disintegrated just as easily as the first one did.

As I kept walking down the side of a small hill upon which I stood, I saw a creek which flowed quickly towards a waterfall off the cliff not far from me. I followed it out of pure interest, because it didn’t look like I was on a mountain.

I quickly was at the edge of this waterfall. I carefully moved to the very edge to look over and see where the waterfall went. I peered into the darkness to which it fell, but could not see anything of the bottom, just a deep dark cavern beneath it.

I was being careful as the rocks around me seemed to be covered with some sort of slimy substance, and I had no doubt that if I put my hand on it and looked over the edge I would slip and fall over the edge and most certainly perish. The logic getting the better of me I backed slowly away from the edge and followed the course of the river, to see where it came from.

Shortly, I stopped and took a closer look at the rocks beside the river and found that they too were covered with that slime.

Soap is slippery,” I spoke out loud for the first time since arriving here.

Suddenly a bright light surrounded me and I found myself in my bed at home. My nostrils still held onto the sickly sweet smell, the feel of the button flowers, and my fingers covered in the soapy substance.

“I thought it was a dream,” I said as I got up.
