another fine 52 week challenge prompt.... Skiing for a purpose... |
| The battle had gone on too long for any side to really claim a victory over the other. Many lives had already been lost, no need to make it more. The shooting had subsided, as if either no one lasted long enough to continue the battle or no one really cared about it. I stuck my head up, to see anything if I could. Sean the guy next to me in the trench reached his hand to me, grabbing me by the arm. “get down here!” he ordered,” what in the heck do you think you are doing, you idiot!” “I was seeing why there hasn’t been a shot taken by either side in about five or six minuets,” I explained. “Do you want them to see you?” He asked no higher than a whisper. “No,” I said while I was deep in thought,” but I also don’t want to freeze out here if there is not going to be a battle for us.” The other guy sat there and thought a second,” You know your right.” He flipped a switch on his small silver box on his hip, and as he did a red flashed on it, then it slowly turned green. He then got up and walked over to one side’s position, while I, doing the same exact thig, walked over to the other sides place. They couldn’t see us, but they could hear us and feel us, as those boxes only made it impossible to be seen, if we didn’t want to be. So we had to be careful as we came close to them, if they bumped the boxes or if they got damaged in anyway, there would be some major issues going on. We walked right up to one side’s position, carefully peaked up over the partition they set up. To our surprise we found the position empty and devoid of all life what so ever. “What the…” the guy with me started to say but stopped when he saw piles of clothing and weapons. He leaped across the barrier and grabbed a pile of the clothing and showed them to me. “Same over her at the other position,” I answered as I did the same. We both got together in the center of the battle zone. The place we stood at was typically called no man’s land as it was the area that was being fought over, and usually no one wanted to be in that area, not if they wanted to live they didn’t. “What happened here?” I asked. The other guy didn’t have any thing more than I had , so his answer to me was nothing but shrugged shoulders. “Let’s look at the replay,” I said as I pulled out a small monitor. As I turned it on the monitor sprung to life and moved a switch on the side for it to restart the video I shot. As the video progressed, It showed me the footage that I saw, and to my surprise, nothing more. “Dam!” I said shutting the monitor off and putting it away,” Nothing.” “Did you really expect anything?” the guy asked. I paused a second, and thought about it,” not really!” They guy reached behind him and pulled out his snow board and walked back over to the hillside. He looked back over his shoulder back at me, "I am not waiting around to find out who was expecting this.” I agreed and produced my board as well, just after he jumped off the summit and disappeared down the hill. I agreed with him, in that someone knows what went on here. If this is a new weapon they will want to check out the damage, if any, as in before I wanted to answer no questions what so ever, as we weren’t even supposed to be here. I ran towards the edge of the hill, board in hand and leaped into the air and out over the edge. I placed the board under my feet just before hitting the ground beneath me. Gravity took over once I did and both of us were snowboarding down the hill. He was a bit flashier than I was, as he moved from side to side, kicking up snow and thus making him more visible than I was, I wasn’t up for that. It was more than obvious to me that this guy I was with wasn’t with the military, as I was told he was. He had no idea of tactics or movements or anything else for survival in a combat type zone, as I did. My first impression of him at the beginning still stood. I thought that he was a science geek, or rich kid, who was given everything his whole life and didn’t care about anything else. “If he wants to get himself killed,” I thought,” that’s fine with me. He is just not going to take me with him. We moved with ease down the hill, we moved faster and faster as we went. I kept my distance behind him keeping my box on till the bottom of the hill, when it was safe to turn it off. I watched him move on the board, he was no amateur but a consummate professional. It was a weird situation the whole way around it. It didn’t add up. Suddenly I caught sight of something on his belt in the back, a sudden flash of a red light caught my eye. He had a communicator on him, something we were expressly forbidden to have. Luckily, he wasn’t the only one with things on him we weren’t supposed to have. I touched a control on my watchband, and inside my eye covers appeared a heads up display. I scanned all radio frequencies for his signal and found it. I listened in and recorded the whole conversation. “He has no idea, what is going on or what caused it,” he said. “Is he dangerous?” the voice answered. “As a being, yes; but as far as the master plan… no. He is no threat to our plan.” “You God-dammed traitor!” I thought as I prepared for defense. “He is still military,” The voice said,” Perhaps, we should take care of him before he does cause an issue.” “If that is your order,” He said,” it shall be done! Director Shallus” “CIA?” I thought,” He’s God dammed CIA? No wonder there was nothing about him in the system. I thought it was just a computer glitch.” “Do you need air support?” “For him?” He answered fighting back a deep laugh,” No… absolutely not.” “That’s what you think,” I thought. The agent ahead of my hopped into the air and landed facing backward towards me. I took no offensive move, just simply flashed him my smile. The look on my face basically said “you’re screwed.” “He knows,” he said over the radio. “Then you failed,” the voice said before disconnecting the connection. I produced a controller from my pocket with a bright blue button on it. I made sure he saw it as I pushed the button. With in a microsecond he exploded into thousands of ice crystals. I just smiled as I sailed right on past him, heading towards a different meeting spot other that the one that the CIA would surely be waiting for me at. |
