What did I see when I paused to watch a dancer? For the newbie poetry contest. |
| Cheerful movements drew my gaze From trashed-up sidewalks, splats of rain To shapes behind the opened blinds; I almost passed but changed my mind. Just a dancer, nothing special, But I was feeling sentimental; And in her turns and dips and starts I found some kind of peace at heart. Her body bowed to greet the earth, Then springing up in sudden mirth, She raised her arms in graceful pose And tiptoed 'round on pointed toes. Before me was a world created, Life's mysteries uncomplicated. Beyond our jobs and cars and houses Lies deeper Truth that dance espouses. I moved along; I'd seen enough To stick with me when times are tough. While some are troubled without end, That dancer still just leaps and bends. |
