The Eternal Internal Battle

Battling our inner demons

The dragons inside continue to kill us
No matter how many times we slay them
The scars they leave continue to burn
From childhood they haunt us, hunt us
Castle walls built strong and high
Yet utterly failing to serve as protection
For these dragons, they live inside.

Love and support reinforce us
Keeping us from falling too far into pure darkness
We help each other as best as we can
But within the depths we know this fight is our own

Is this prison our own making?
This I doubt. These dragons we did not create.
These scars weren’t evoked by us.

The fault lies with those we were entrusted
Creating dragons to thrust upon us
Destroying our innocence
Creating wounds that will never fully heal

Yet we continue to persevere
Not content with just to survive, no
To fight as a Knight, with honor and will
Never allowing the dragons to prevail

The dragons may have a stronghold in our hearts,
but they will never own us entirely,
we will always bring them to their knees.
