my new goals |
| Dear Me, I have watched you for some time now, and I see a chance to get some stuff done that we have wanted to get done for a while. In the past, you have put things off till later, or put things off saying I have to do this thing first, when I know you really didn’t have to. I truly want you to stop your procrastinating, your telling yourself you can’t do something when I know, and so do you, that you can do it. Your self-defeating attitude is not helping, nor is it helpful, to you, in fact it may be harmful. I want you to set up goals for yourself this year that are attainable, while at the same time are not easy to reach. And these goals are: 1. To write 2000 words per day on a story of yours on Writing.com a. This will enhance your ability to finish that novel you have wanted to write since you were a teenager. And so you will stop buying the wire bound notebooks, writing on a few pages, and put it down never to be touched again. 2. I want you to review at least 7 stories a day on the aforementioned web site. a. This will get you practiced in what other people are writing, and how they are writing, so you can write that aforementioned story. 3. You are to, over the next year, lose a total weight of 156 lbs.( and if your doing the math in your head, as I know you are, that’s 3 lbs a week) a. So you can live long enough to walk to that mailbox to get that acceptance letter from the publisher from the aforementioned story or book. 4. To read a little bit each and every day, whether it be a fiction piece, non-fiction, poem, or anything else that someone else has written.( notice I said someone else! NOT YOURS!) a. Another exercise in seeing how other people are writing about, as Ive mentioned before. Now these are rough goals for you to reach, but they are not impossible. I know you will do anything and everything in your power to NOT do these things, mainly because I am asking, or rather telling you to do them. And I know, right now you are thinking of ways not to read the rest of this letter. I want you to consider why I’m doing this. The answer is simple, I care. There are a few people who wanted the best for you over the years, for example your mom, sister, and a few friends and brothers, but you never took their advice thinking that you know best. Well I’m here to tell you, surprise; you don’t, deeper than that, you never did. But me, what about me? I’ve been there beside you through boot camp at Parris Island, when you said you couldn’t go on. I was that little voice in your head to keep going. I was that voice that pointed you to the best paths in your life, not the path of least resistance you tried to take. I was there when your dad passed away; it was my shoulder you cried on, when nobody was watching, of course. I told you it would be alright, and that things will get better. You didn’t care when I tried to help you, that is until you marched across that parade deck as a United States Marine, Or when you emerged from the Masonic Lodge room, a mason. You didn’t even bat an eye. But brother, I am here to help you, whether you let me or not, I will. I am only doing this to you because you won’t do it for yourself, and I want better for you. I am willing to do anything to do that. I told you earlier that you didn’t even bat an eye. I’m here to tell you that I will bat your eye, if you don’t listen. I will applaud you for success, or make you pay for failure, because it is not an option, for you or me. Don’t forget… I will be watching! Always watching! Yours respectively, You or me.
