Escape

Free verse poem

It seems easy to hide behind a smile
Hope that no one looks close enough to see
the pain inside my eyes
I stare off into the distance
Will the tears away
Tuck away my thoughts
into the depths of my mind
away from now
Blink away those thoughts
Run from the sadness
Run for my life
for a chance at happiness
for my sanity
Can't slow down
Can't look back
Have to keep running
twists and turns
to escape the pain that threatens to consume me
