Warrior’s Lament for His New Bride

as he sees his imminent demise
         his thoughts towards hearth and home and her. - M

                   take you in my arms
                             to hug you
                             to hold you
                             to comfort you

never again
         to hear your voice
                   or the sounds you make
                             when dreaming
                             when breathing
                             while sobbing
                             while sleeping
                             while making love

never again
         shall I
                   drink from your lips
                             soft
                             moist
                             warm
                                       inviting
                                       intoxicating
                                       spellbinding

                             life sustaining
                                       bringing wisdom

never again
         shall I be
                   drawn by your eyes
                             to see
                             to comprehend
                             to seek
                                       your sadness
                                       your seeking
                                       your joy and
                                                 signs of
                                                           realization.
                                                           redemption.
                                                           recognition.
                                                 some reason to
                                                           heal again.
                                                           trust again.
                                                           love again.
