Why should I age with grace and poise?
I've spent my time amidst the noise
of life, its laughter and its cries
and, every now and then, surprise!

In truth, I think I'm in rebellion,
recalling times I was a hellion
in my youth and middle age.
This is only one more stage.

I love the challenge of each day
to love, to learn, to move, not stay
a bystander watching the race
with mem'ries written on my face.

I will ignore the finish line
until I'm forced to by divine
intervention - with no tears;
until that time, I'll ride the years!

I think that Thomas¹ had it right:
do not go gentle into night!
