Human: Reunion/Ascension

The second part to the three part poem "Human"

We ran and ran
And did not stop
Until we reached the highest rooftop of the highest building
And there we rested
We were wary, worn and alone
Alone together
Were we the only ones?
As I drifted
Into a slumber
I heard sounds
Running
Panting
Shouting
They were coming for us
To bring us back
To imprison us
To use us
Our rest was interrupted
And we continued
To run away
But they tried to break us
To break our will
To turn us against each other
But we held on
And kept pushing
And fought back
And more of our kind came out from the shadows
We were not alone
We had the strength that they could not break
No longer did we need to fight
And as our light shone at its brightest
We
Ascended
