Human: Escape

The first part to the three part poem "Human"

We were special
We were different
We weren't like the the rest
So they locked us up
And tried to take our specialties away
They tried to dehumanize us
But we weren't human to begin with
We were the stars in the Milky Way
And the spirits in the trees in the forests
The innocent smiles of children
They tried to take our lights away
But they only shone brighter
They tried to hold us down
Restraint us
But the tighter the restraints
The harder we fought
The brighter we shone
