A fictional poem about a young warrior's journey. |
| ------Child of War------ Atop the town of Dunham lie Clouds of rain and darkened skies. Over hills rise breath of flame An army’s fires, no doubt, to blame. I know it’s coming; the war arise It shows in faces, words, and eyes. On peak of hill I barely see A man alone with flag of free. He holds the flag on high And with mighty bound do floodgates cry. The waves are upon us now And beneath them does the city bow. I look at him, he looks at me The hurt and pain is plain to see. Blade of steel he does low And watch my mother and me as we go. I won’t forget the shame I saw The knight held back with tightened jaw. My life is spared, for now at least I’ve seen the war, the hungry beast. |
