A country under commercial siege

We are under siege
Not a military one
In this instance
But a commercial one

We are being bombarded
With adverts left right and center
From billboards to pamphlets
Print media to audio visual media
Electronic media to cyber space

Now they have stepped up a gear
By recording messages
That play automaticaly as soon as
You pick up your mobile phone
Markerters are doing all this to get
Our attention and get us to part with our money

We are also willing victims in all of this
Because we have also mastered the art
Of filling out forms
In the financial institutions
So we can get that dream house
That set of wheels we've been dying to roll in
I'm writing this in the context of South Africa
I don't know about the other parts of the world

Is this a case of markerters being good at their jobs
Or is it just that we are a nation of consumers?
