| Ambition An overriding need to be vilified by your enemies in life And ridiculed by your friends in death1 But at least if you take a wife Your ambition becomes of this earth And the social creatures we are From our ambition people are never afar Seeking the loss of personality That we may be acknowledged with gravity And in doing so fall into a labour Pregnant not of our own proclivities But those of who beacons from the harbour To make ridicule of our miseries |
