MAKE ME SMILE

I know it's only for a moment

and only in my mind,

but I close my eyes to sleep, dead tired,

and I see you anyway.



I should be hurt; I should be sad,

but I am neither of those things when you invade my mind.

You make me smile;

the perfect way to fall asleep.  I don't have you in my arms,

but I am there nonetheless.  No one can take that away---not even the You that you became.



The very thought of you

brings you into that room within my mind as if it were so.

I find it hard to sleep, but I don't care if I don't.

For those few moments, I am as whole as I have been in the longest time.

I go to sleep with a smile on my lips.



If it's wrong that this makes me smile, I'm a sinner;

If there's a chance I'll have to pay for it, then I'll take it.

And I'll take you with me everywhere I go...

because you make me smile.
