Slip Away - A poem |
My heart, in vain Cries out your name. Your eyes like stone Ignore my pain. I sent you love From heav’n above. Instead you hate And throw your glove. I told you ‘bout tomorrow, I told you yesterday, Go drown yourself in sorrow. Go spill your tears away. I see it now, I raise one brow, I fade away Take my last bow. My silent screams Are mute, it seems. Let’s tie the rope, Raise high the beams. I told you ‘bout tomorrow, I told you yesterday, I die in my own sorrow. I let life slip away. Now we’re even, Even Stephen. Choose your torture: Hell or heaven? I let you go, I let you know, No more to say, I hurt you so... I told you ‘bout tomorrow, I told you yesterday, Forget about your sorrow. Forget it all away. I find delight In blackened night Where in my sleep I find the light. Your spoils, my gains, Our great remains, May we find rest Out on the planes I told you ’bout tomorrow I told you yesterday Rise high by your own sorrow Rise up, up and away! |
